President William Ruto made a statement on his commitment to climate change solutions by driving himself in an electric vehicle (EV) to the Africa Climate Summit 2023 held at the KICC Nairobi. The EV was manufactured by Autopax Limited, a locally owned company that aims to promote green mobility in Kenya and Africa.
The EV, named Autopax AirEv YETU Pro, was designed to suit the African terrain and weather conditions.
It had a battery capacity of 300 kilometres on a full charge and cost between KSh 1.5 million to KSh 1.7 million. The EV also had features such as solar panels, air conditioning, and smart navigation.
President Ruto drove the EV twice to the summit, once on Monday and once on Tuesday. He said that he was impressed by the performance and efficiency of the vehicle and praised Autopax for their innovation and vision.
