Automating public services will improve tax collection, stop the majority of leaks, and eventually secure public funds.

Principal Secretary Julius Bitok of the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services stated that all government services will be automated and digitalized in an effort to boost efficiency and close corruption loopholes.

As a result, Bittok claimed that a single paybill number will be used to pay for all online government services.

The PS added that 5,000 services are currently being digitalized at various levels, and that 2,560 functions have already been fully automated. This will give people opportunities and increase trust in government, the PS stated.

The main problem for e-citizen is how to harness technological developments for the public good so that service delivery is improved, he added. “New skills for data and new technology are fast changing,” he said.

The PS stated that automating government services will improve revenue collection by plugging up the majority of leaks during the concluding ceremony of a two-day e-Citizen sensitization session held at a Machakos hotel.

This entails a reevaluation of how government services are delivered in terms of development issues, as well as a shift in how citizens view those services, the official explained.

“The need for greater efficiency and continuous improvement is not just about adding new skills, people, or equipment,” the speaker added. “It also involves looking at how to re-prioritize and reduce work that is less relevant.”

We have a responsibility to work consistently to provide better value for money, demonstrate effect through cutting-edge evaluation, and take advantage of quick technological advances for the benefit of the public, he said.

Amb Isaac Ochieng, the director general of e-Citizen, announced that the government will consolidate 2,560 services from over 1200 e-Citizen gateway pay bills into one pay bill number 222 222 since they were expensive for the government and did not fulfill their intended purposes.

He gave the Kenyan people the assurance that they would continue to receive departmental services without interruption and that all services will be available online within the next six months.
By December of this year, all government departments and agencies will offer higher-quality services as a result of the service’s commitment to stricter budget controls.

According to Ochieng, “the new service delivery will change the trends in revenue collection and make the government visible in a single platform but not a single server.”
“Officers in government services must be open and honest. The public can get services whenever it’s convenient for them, he noted.
