Guidelines Provided By the TSC for Increases in Teachers’ Salaries and Promotions

Teachers who are employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have the opportunity to advance their careers by being considered for promotion.

The purpose of promotions within the TSC is to recognize performance, facilitate succession planning, and improve opportunities for professional progress. As a direct consequence of this, teachers’ base pay and perks increase as they advance in their careers.

As a result of the signing of the 54 billion CBA 2017–2021 between TSC and the three teachers’ unions, KUPPET, KNUT, and KUSNET, the grading procedure for primary and secondary school teachers was modernized. This occurred as a direct result of the fact that the CBA was worth 54 billion dollars.

The commission promotes instructors in accordance with the Career Progression Guidelines (CPGs), which were first implemented in 2016 and take into account, among other things, requisite qualifications and satisfactory performance.

Promotion from Grade B5 to the C1 level

Only teachers with a level B5 are qualified to work in elementary schools. Newly hired teachers are placed on T-Scale 5, which is the entry-level position for primary school educators and is also commonly referred to as Teacher II.

A newly hired primary school teacher will be automatically promoted to Grade C1 after three years of employment. This promotion will not be contingent on the completion of any extra training or an interview process.

Grade C1 to grade C2 advancement

Teachers with a diploma in education are qualified to begin their careers at the Grade C1 level in secondary schools. This group includes members with titles such as Primary Teacher I, Secondary Teacher III, and Lecturer I. They do not qualify for the annual pay increases that are offered.

After three years of employment in Grade B5, teachers at primary schools are automatically promoted to Grade C1 regardless of their performance.

Primary Teachers 1, also known as teachers of grade C1, receive the lowest possible salary under the current pay system (T-system 6). However, promotion to Grade C2 is not guaranteed for elementary school teachers who are currently working in Grade C1.

The application process for Grade C2 is rigorous, there are not many available positions, and it serves as a stepping stone to higher levels of administration.

Teachers who are interested in moving up to Grade C2 must submit their applications online when the Teaching Service Center issues job advertising for this grade.

Candidates need to possess the relevant credentials, which include a high school graduation, and have a minimum of three years of experience working at the Grade C1 level. Teachers of grade C1 are also referred to under the title Secondary Teachers II.

After serving in Grade C1 for a period of three years, educators who possess a Diploma for Secondary Schools are automatically advanced to Grade C2.

Upgrade from Grade C2 to the C3 level

It is common for teachers working in elementary schools to develop their careers to grade C2, which is the most senior teaching job available in those establishments. It is a stepping stone to the executive team that one can take. However, advancement to this level is not guaranteed; rather, it is contingent on the amount of competition present as well as the number of positions that remain open.

To be eligible for promotion to the level of Primary Teacher II, one needs to have a minimum of three years of experience teaching students in the primary grades. If an individual meets the requirements, promotion to this grade will be granted automatically.
