Kakamega Teacher Shows Empathy to Unkept Pupil, Gifts Him New Uniform and Shaves His Head

A teacher in Kakamega county has shown a different approach to dealing with unkept pupils in his school. O’kubasu Malik, who teaches at Emukangu KAG Primary School, decided to gift one of his pupils a new uniform and shave his head instead of punishing him for being dirty and unkempt.
Malik, who is also known as The Rural Teacher, shared the story on his Facebook page on Monday, September 4, 2023. He said he noticed the pupil, whose name he did not disclose, had torn clothes, long hair, and dirty shoes. He said he felt sorry for the boy and decided to help him out.
“I bought him a new uniform, shoes and socks. I also shaved his hair and cleaned him up. I did not want to punish him like other teachers would do. I wanted to show him some love and empathy. I also wanted to teach some parents responsibility by transforming their children and showing them how they are supposed to be presented,” Malik wrote.
He added that he has been helping neglected students in his school for a long time and that he believes education is the key to changing their lives. He said he hopes his story will inspire other teachers and people to be kind and generous to those in need.
The story has gone viral on social media and has received positive reactions from many people who praised Malik for his kindness and generosity. Some also offered to support him in his noble cause of helping the rural students.
“Wow, this is amazing. You are a true hero and a role model. God bless you for what you are doing,” one user commented.
“This is the kind of teacher we need in our schools. Someone who understands the challenges that some students face and helps them overcome them. You have touched my heart with your story,” another user wrote.
Malik thanked everyone who appreciated his work and said he will continue to do his best to make a difference in the lives of his students.
