Nairobi, Kenya – Two prominent Kenyan politicians, Kipchumba Murkomen and Aaron Cheruiyot, engaged in a light-hearted banter on Twitter over the weekend after Arsenal beat Manchester United 3-1 in the English Premier League.
Anybody seen @kipmurkomen ?
He left me with a huge bill after Declan and Gabriel did their thing . Jumped up to celebrate, only to find an empty chair and the waiter with the bill.
Luckily , fellow gooner @RailaOdinga was in the vicinity. After celebrations,he cleared the bill.— Aaron Cheruiyot (@Aaroncheruiyot) September 4, 2023
Murkomen, who is the senator for Elgeyo Marakwet County and a vocal supporter of Manchester United, congratulated Arsenal for their victory and praised their striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for his performance. He also joked that he would not watch football for a while and asked Cheruiyot, who is the senator for Kericho County and an avid fan of Arsenal, to buy him lunch.
Cheruiyot responded by teasing Murkomen for his team’s poor performance and suggested that he should switch his allegiance to Arsenal. He also accepted his offer for lunch and said that he would treat him to some ugali and sukuma wiki, a traditional Kenyan dish.
The exchange of tweets between the two senators amused many of their followers, who joined in the conversation and expressed their views on the match. Some praised them for their sportsmanship and humor, while others mocked them for their political affiliations and opinions.
This is not the first time that Murkomen has been involved in a football banter with his colleagues. He has previously teased Millicent Omanga, another senator and Arsenal fan, during a previous match between the two teams. He has also shown his passion for football by playing for Bunge FC, a team composed of parliamentarians, in various tournaments.
