Police investigate alleged headbutt on Roy Keane

London: The Metropolitan Police are investigating an alleged assault on former Manchester United captain and Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane by a member of the public during the Arsenal vs Manchester United match on Sunday, September 3, 2023.

The incident reportedly occurred in the West Stand of the Emirates Stadium, where Keane was making his way to the pitchside area for his post-match analysis. A man tried to headbutt Keane, who was not seriously injured and continued his broadcasting duties after the incident.

Micah Richards, another Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester City defender, was seen restraining the man in a video that circulated on social media. Richards was acting to defuse the situation and protect Keane, according to Sky Sports.

Arsenal said they were aware of the incident and were cooperating with the police enquiries. The club also said they condemned any form of violence and would take appropriate action against anyone found guilty of such behaviour.

Keane is a legendary figure in Manchester United’s history, having won seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and a Champions League trophy with the club. He had a fierce rivalry with Arsenal during his playing career, most notably with former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring for Manchester United and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalising for Arsenal from the penalty spot.
