In Nairobi, Kenya, a Regional Support Core Network Engineer is responsible for providing first-line support for the core network elements and systems hosted in the data center. This role involves fault management on these systems and infrastructure, handling assigned incidents, executing planned network changes, managing preventive maintenance tasks, supporting data center project activities, maintaining inventory of all data center assets, monitoring and allocating resources as per plans, and optimizing data center resources.

Responsibilities include fault management, such as analyzing NE logs, carrying out database audits, troubleshooting and solving faults, and providing workable technical solutions to reduce downtime and repeat core network failures. Preventive maintenance includes scheduling and managing tasks, tracking and monitoring Network and Service KPIs, and improving PM tools and methods.

Change management and projects involve making configuration changes on network elements, provisioning new core network elements and services, and scheduling automated tasks to meet service requirements. Inventory management involves keeping a log of all changes carried out on site, ensuring maintenance and support documentation are collected and properly stored, and conducting audits and keeping records on assets hosted in the data center.

Business continuity management tests and activities are planned and executed per site, documenting learnings and post-test actions, and monitoring high availability mechanisms to ensure minimal service disruption. Health and safety is ensured, with data center visitors well informed on safety issues and all users adhering to company H&S policy.

Qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related IT field, knowledge in core network systems, understanding of VoLTE, VoBB, CS and PS interfaces and protocols, scripting or programming language, cloud certification, CCNA or related certification, good report writing skills, good communication and collaborative skills, a strong sense of integrity, responsibility, and initiative, and self-organization.
