Kenyan junior and senior secondary school children have been asked by the government to take part in a letter-writing contest run by the Kenyan Postal Corporation.

Posta announced on Thursday, July 20, that students would be asked to draft a letter to the President outlining strategies for reversing the consequences of climate change.

A chance to win Ksh50,000 is offered to the competition’s winners in addition to other cash prizes.

The Authority declared that “The Post Office is a sanctuary for creativity and expression, where artists and writers find inspiration in the act of sending their work out into the world.”

The contest’s primary objectives are to encourage young people to send letters to one another, help them become better writers, and teach them about and respect the hobby of stamp collecting.

The importance of planting trees to environmental conservation was the subject of a letter from the students to the president.

The focus of the chosen topic is President William Ruto’s efforts to combat climate change by increasing the nation’s forest cover.

With the intention of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, Ruto has committed to planting 1.5 billion trees by the year 2032. Additionally, 5.1 million acres of previously deforested land are being restored as part of his attempts to halt and reverse the deforestation trend.

On June 25, 2023, in Kajiado County, President William Ruto delivered a sermon during an interdenominational prayer session.

“Tourism brings in about Ksh1 billion annually because visitors value a healthy environment, and we recently began water trucking because a severe drought had a negative impact on our species. Ruto said in July 2023, “I want to say that planting trees is now a critical requirement.

In an effort to encourage youngsters to write conventional letters, the Postal Corporation made it clear that video submissions would not be considered.

Posta added that fostering “creativity in writing letters” not only promotes artistic and creative expression but also helps preserve the art of letter writing.

Postmaster General, P.O. Box 34567-00100 Nairobi, Attention: Manager, Corporate Communication, is the address to which all correspondence should be directed.

Participants who wanted additional information about this challenge were encouraged to phone or WhatsApp the government agency at (719) 907-2600.
