US Embassy in Kenya Hiring Program Assistant

The U.S. Embassy to Kenya, established in 1964, has been instrumental in fostering ties between the American and Kenyan communities. The Program Assistant – Refugee Affairs (USEFMs Only) at the U.S. Embassy to Kenya is responsible for administrative support and project management within the Refugee and Humanitarian Affairs Unit.

This unit, staffed by three FSOs and one LE staff position, is responsible for covering regional humanitarian assistance issues across East Africa, the Horn of Africa, and the Great Lakes. It also manages all aspects of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) for 21 countries in East Africa, the Horn of Africa, and Southern Africa.

The EFM Refugee Program Assistant supports all four staff members and coordinates with the Political Section OMS as needed. Opportunities for travel to refugee camps in Kenya and throughout the region are available. Qualifications for this position include three years of administrative work experience, knowledge of office management systems and procedures, and knowledge of refugee and humanitarian issues. Education requirements include completion of secondary-level education.

The job requires proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, strong written and verbal communication skills, organizational and planning skills, attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, excellent time management skills, and the ability to work independently in a high-stress, high-productivity environment.
